Ultrasonic Sensor
An Ultrasonic Sensor measures distance by using sound waves. It sends out a high-frequency sound pulse and measures the time it takes for the echo to return. This data helps robots detect objects, avoid collisions, and measure proximity with accuracy.
How It Works?
The sensor emits an ultrasonic wave that travels through the air. When it hits an object, the wave reflects back to the sensor. The microcontroller calculates the distance using the formula:
Distance = (Time × Speed of Sound) / 2
Common Modules
- HC-SR04 – most popular and cost-effective
- JSN-SR04T – waterproof version for outdoor use
- US-015 – high-precision short-range sensor
Applications in Robotics
Ultrasonic sensors are widely used for obstacle detection and navigation in robots.
